The mystical sparkle and soft pink orchid colors of this handmade brooch could have been made by fairies!  This is a handmade one-of-a-kind dichroic fused glass brooch pin that has beautiful layers of glass and dichroic color.  The layers have a faint floating flower with an etched design.  What makes this brooch so special is the faint shifting rainbow colors of the flower.  These pastel colors will appear and disappear as the angle of the light changes. This characteristic is impossible to capture with a photograph.

The rectangular brooch is a heavy, smooth and sparkling glass gem stone.  This is a really elegant piece of unique jewelry that can be worn for a special occasion and would look beautiful on a coat, jacket or sweater. The brooch is fastened with a pin clasp on the back.

So what is dichroic glass? It's characteristics are just amazing! Dichroic glass was first developed by NASA as part of their satellite mirror systems. The extremely thin dichroic coating must be applied to the sheet glass in very controlled environments. Di-chroic means two colors and this glass reflects/transmits different colors depending on the angle of light. When it is worn with different colors, it appears to pick up and reflect some of those colors so it really enhances the total look. I call this the "mood" of the glass.

I make all Umeboshi jewelry at Dark Hollow Studio in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia. Each piece is carefully fired and annealed in a digital kiln for a perfect results!
