Discover the beauty of a coral reef in this handmade one-of-a-kind dichroic fused glass pendant!  This Caribbean blue cabochon is accented with colorful bits swimming around in the glass.  This unique pendant is securely wrapped up in argentium sterling silver wire that weaves a secure harness for the cabochon.  Argentium sterling silver resists tarnish and is a jeweler's delight!

This fascinating, oval cabochon came out of the kiln with a lot of character and sparkling color. I decided that wire wrapping would bring out the best in the piece.  I love to wire wrap pieces like this and never know what I will do until I start to work!  Each piece is wrapped differently as a result.

The cabochon is multi-layered with bits of shimmering dichroic glass on a cerulean blue base.  This allows light to come through the pendant as well as reflect off of it!  Brilliant colors of pale blue and surprise bits of pink and purple, shine on this pendant!  The cabochon  is capped with a layer of crystal clear glass that adds depth and smoothness.  There are patches of bright color that float toward the top of the gem.  This is beautiful on level after level of dichroic splendor.

This listing is for the pendant only.  This pendant looks especially nice on a strong silver necklace and will set off your wardrobe beautifully.  Necklaces are sold separately in the necklace section of this shop.

So what is dichroic glass? It's characteristics are just amazing! Dichroic glass was first developed by NASA as part of their satellite mirror systems. The extremely thin dichroic coating must be applied to the sheet glass in very controlled environments. Di-chroic means two colors and this glass reflects/transmits different colors depending on the angle of light. When it is worn with different colors, it appears to pick up and reflect some of those colors so it really enhances the total look. I call this the "mood" of the glass. Because of it's ability to color-shift,

I make All Umeboshi jewelry at Dark Hollow Studio in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia. Each piece is carefully fired and annealed in a digital kiln for a perfect results!
